Indonesia suspends Indonesian football leagues

The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) in a statement has suspended all matches for their Shopee Liga 1 and Liga 2 indefinitely.

The move was done in accordance to the recent announcement by Indonesian President Joko Widodo whom had advised citizens of the archipelagic nation to begin staying at home, highlighting the importance of cooperation as the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Indonesia continues to rise amid the pandemic.

PSSI Chairman, Mochamad Iriawan ordered all Shopee Liga 1 and Liga 2 matches to be suspended through a letter dated 18 March 2020.

The letter also requested that the league management, PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) to reschedule matches and asked clubs to also prepare for the worst.

The Shopee Liga 1 is entering its third week of competition while Liga 2 only kicked off last 14 March.
